Baby beds aim to improve bonding and safety

JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- SSM Health, St. Mary's Hospital is trying to improve the connection between moms and their newborns with updated equipment.  The Janesville hospital is debuting Halo Baby Beds.

The beds move up and down, rotate, have a clear 360 degree view, retractable side and offer easy access to baby necessities.

"It really helps improve safety for mom and for baby," said Jennifer Fewless, the director of the family birth suites.  She has four children of her own.  "I remember how hard it was to reach your baby and get them out.  You have an incision and the baby is sitting next to you, any amount of turning and bending and twisting is just that much more stress on mom."

We saw new mom, Bailey Miller, use the bed with her newborn, Kingsten.  "You can just reach over and even if you're exhausted, push that down, and he's right there."
