Cap City eager to face Fond du Lac again at WIAA tourney

On Friday, the WIAA girls' hockey tournament gets under way.  The Sun Prairie girls' co-op - otherwise known as the Cap City Cougars - will face the co-op from Fond du Lac in the semifinals.

The Cougars say they have momentum, after taking down the Rock County Fury, who were the top-seeded team in their section.

"We're peaking at the right time," said Cougars' head coach Jeff Thornton.  "We've won 8 straight, 11 of our last 12 [games], which is where you want to be at this time of the year.  The girls are starting to play as a team and put their team first and that makes a big difference."

"We're so excited to be in this position," said senior forward Carson Sheridan.  "That's all we were looking forward to all year and to finally get there is just so cool."

The Cougars played Fond du Lac earlier this season, which resulted in a loss.  They say they've improved so much over the course of the season, they think this time the result will be different.

"I think we really grew as a team throughout the whole season with all of our wins and losses," said senior forward Elise Olson. "I think that we can take them again and maybe this time a little better than last time."

"We've done so much better since like [the middle] of our season that we can take them," said senior defender Montana Cruz.  "I have full faith in our team that we can come together as a family and play to our best ability."

The Cougars and the Warbirds face off on Friday at 12:15pm.
