KEWAUNEE (WKOW) -- Friday, family and friends said goodbye to a prominent dairy farmer and his son-in-law in Kewaunee.

John Pagel and Steve Witcpalek died in a plane crash in Indiana a little more than a week ago.

More than 3,000 people showed up to the high school to pay their respects, many remembering Pagel for his dairy farming innovations.

Don Niles was a close friend and business partner of Pagel.

He says, "It's a diaspora of small farmers, large farmers, nutritionists, veterinarians people that are involved in the dairy community that wanted to pay their respects, because in some way or another john impacted them and their career and their success."

Witcpalek is being remembered for his giving nature and his contributions to creating a playground for special needs kids at the Kewaunee school.
