Senators Baldwin, Booker focus on minority business leaders in Madison

MADISON (WKOW) -- Senators Tammy Baldwin and Cory Booker were in Madison this weekend to meet with young African American professionals and business entrepreneurs.

Their meeting focused on the importance of early voter engagement and voter turnout in the upcoming mid-term elections in Wisconsin.

"I think what we're seeing right now is a transition from engagement in the issues of such incredible stakes to engagement in campaigns. People are seeing the connection between the unsolved problems...the mess in Washington and who they vote for," said Sen. Baldwin.

The senators highlighted the importance of participating in elections as a way to bring change in policy.

Republican Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Alec Zimmerman released the following statement in response to the visit from the senators:

“It’s just like Senator Baldwin to rely on her allies in Washington to save her ahead of 2018. Baldwin’s record has been anything but friendly to the hard-working families of our state — voting against pro-business bills such as tax reform that will help Wisconsin’s economy grow and thrive. Baldwin continues to pick Washington over Wisconsin.”
