Smartphone GPS tracker leads officers to recover stolen purse
MADISON (WKOW) -- Police say a victim's phone helped lead them to recover a stolen purse.
According to a blog post by Madison Police Chief Mike Koval, officers responded to a theft in the 100 block of E. Doty Street. The victim's purse was taken and credit cards had been used. Police say the victim used a smartphone GPS tracker to direct officers to the phone.
A sergeant started following the suspect's vehicle. When he tried to pull the suspect over, police say the suspect accelerated through an intersection and caused a crash.
Police say the suspect ran away, but officers were able to find the phone, multiple credit cards and the victim's ID. Investigators are now pursuing leads in the identity of the suspect.
