Bowlin' for Colons continues cancer research support

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- People are bowling a strike for cancer research Sunday.

Bowlin' for Colons is in it's 17th year raising money to help support gastrointestinal cancer research at the UW Carbone Cancer Center.

The center is Wisconsin's only federally-designated comprehensive cancer center that does research and patient care.

Over the 17 years, the event has continued to grow.

"I've got a number of families here today that have been coming for years and years and they just keep getting bigger. One of my family friends has a group of 50 out here today, generations have joined through this event," said Dan Mulkerin, medical director with Carbone.

This year, organizers are expecting to bring in about $70 thousand. Bowlin' for Colons has raised nearly a million dollars for colon cancer research over the years.
