GREEN BAY (WKOW) -

Beaver Dam held on to an early lead to defeat Hortonville, 54-43, in the WIAA Division 2 semi-finals on Friday afternoon.  Matyson Wilke scored 19 points and had 8 rebounds in the victory.

"As a freshman, [the game was] kind of overwhelming at first," said Wilke.  "And just watching [the state playoff games] last year I kind of knew what was coming.  So it gave me a lot of confidence coming in and [my teammates] just kept telling me to keep going."

With the win, the Beavers will face New Berlin Eisenhower in the state championship on Saturday.  NBE defeated Monroe, 67-63, in the semi-finals.

The Cheesemakers were able to overcome a hole early in the game, to get close at the end.  Down by 3 points in the final 15 seconds of play, Monroe had a few opportunities to try and tie the game, but came up short.

"We wanted to get a 3-point shot obviously," said Sydney Hilliard, who scored 25 points for Monroe. "We got two good looks.  Emily [Benzschawel] missed it by a little bit.  I got the rebound.  Grace [Tostrud] was ready to shoot.  I'm just happy we got those two shots off.  We obviously wanted it to go in, but I'm just happy we were able to get those."

With the loss, Monroe finishes the season with a 24-3 record.
