MADISON (WKOW) -- Dane County officials say the driver of a Ford Taurus died Friday afternoon after his car collided with a Toyota Prius near Cross Plains.

Lt. Tim Schuetz says just before 3:00 p.m. someone called 9-1-1 to report that they'd seen the man in the Taurus driving all over the road northbound on County Highway P.  A very short time later, the Taurus crossed over the center line and was struck by the Prius, just south of Stagecoach Road.

The Taurus driver was taken by helicopter to UW Hospital where he was later died. A woman who was a passenger in the car was taken in an ambulance to UW Hospital. She was critically injured.

The driver and passenger Prius also went to UW Hospital by ambulance - they are both expected to be alright. Officials say the people in the Prius were wearing seat belts and several airbags deployed in that car.

The crash remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and the identity of the man who died will be released later by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
