UPDATE (WKOW) -- The Rock County Medical Examiner's Department has released the name of a man who died in a traffic crash in Avon Township.

The man was identified as Bruce Woodward, 62, of Durand, Illinois. The medical examiner says Woodward's death was a result of injuries he sustained in the crash.

There is additional testing underway and the death is still under investigation.

UPDATE (WKOW) -- Sgt. Peter Falk with the Rock County Sheriff's office says the date originally sent on their news release was incorrect.

He says the accident happened on March 9th, not March 3rd.

AVON (WKOW) -- Rock County authorities say a 52-year-old-man from Durand, Illinois died in a single-car crash near the Town of Avon.

The Rock County Sheriff's office, in a news release issued Saturday, says the driver died on March 3rd when his red Corvette went off the road on South Nelson Road, near West Carroll Road.   No one else was with him.

Investigators believe the driver lost control of his car, crossed into the southbound lane, entered a ditch on the west side of the road and struck a tree.  The car continued northbound, struck another tree and then came to a stop in a ditch.

Sgt. Robert Scott says the driver, who has not been identified, was partially ejected and was not wearing his seat belt.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office

Nelson Road was shut down from Stateline Road to Carroll Road for about three hours afterward.
