DEERFIELD, Wis. (WKOW) -

The Deerfield boys basketball team is going somewhere they have never been before....the WIAA State Tournament.

"It's amazing to be called the first team to ever make it to state for Deerfield," says senior Noah Gjermo. "It's honestly a dream come true to play at the Kohl Center. I know everyone on the team is very happy."

The Demons clinched a spot in the Division 5 semifinals with a 65-42 win over Oshkosh Lourdes Academy in the sectional final. Deerfield is 23-4 on the season. The Demons will face McDonell Catholic Central on Friday at about 10:45 a.m.

"For me, it's a complete relief now at this point," says senior forward Nate Siewert. "For me, this is all just icing on top of the cake stuff now. We've made history. I couldn't be more happy with my team. It's just unbelievable to be at this point right now."

Siewert is leading the Demons in scoring this season with 17.6 points per game. The 6'4" forward is also registering 10.2 rebounds per contest. Gjermo has been adding 16.2 points and 7.0 rebounds a game. The senior duo is a big reason the Demons have won 11 in a row to create this historic moment for the Deerfield community.

"It's absolutely crazy here in Deerfield," observes head coach Dave Borgrud. "Everyone is very excited. Everyone is behind the team. It's bringing the community together. Just loving this week."
