Beloit officer injured after squad hit by suspected drunken driver

BELOIT -- A Beloit police officer received non-life threatening injures after the squad car she was in was struck by a suspected drunken driver.

Officer Kayla Glass was heading westbound on Grand Avenue at Short Street about 6 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, when another vehicle failed to follow a traffic light, striking Glass's squad car, according to a post on the Beloit Police Department Facebook page.

The driver, Theresa R. Stephens, 52, of Rockford, fled the scene after the crash, according to police.

Officers a short time later located Stephens at an establishment in the 600 block of Broad Street.

She was arrested and faces charges of operating while intoxicated causing injury and hit and run causing injury. Glass received non-life threatening injuries.
