Posted: Updated:

Fitchburg Police are looking for several suspects in a homicide.

Julian Patterson, A 20-year-old man from Fort Atkinson, WI was shot and killed in Fitchburg last night.

Police tell us they're not sure to what extent all were involved but are optimistic about making an arrest.

Before the shooting there was a disturbance in the parking lot at New Fountain Apartments, and people in the area say things like this are becoming more common.

"The neighborhood has changed a lot over the last 5 years," said Touch of Class Full Service Hair Styling Co-Owner, Ron Frey.

Frey said he isn't worried about the safety of his clients, right now.

"If it continues to get worse, of course, it's going to have an effect on our business at some point," said Frey "We're not there yet."

Touch of Class is taking extra precautions.

"We have certain policies as far as locking doors after hours, if someone is working alone in the latter part of the day," said Frey.

Those changes are in response to previous crimes.

"We've seen things happen at our neighbor's, PDQ, where there's been guns drawn and people would be on the ground, we've watched it," said Frey.

Despite this, Fitchburg Police are encouraging people not to worry.

"Generally speaking no one has any reason to be concerned for their safety in regards to the people involved in this particular case," said Fitchburg Police Chief Chad Brecklin.

Police believe the shooting wasn't a chance occurrence.

"We do believe that this was not a random act of violence but we are still in the process of determining if any relationship existed between the parties involved in that disturbance," said Brecklin.

Meanwhile, people like Ron are concerned but not fearful.

"Plenty safe," said Frey. "I really do. The police department does a wonderful job here."

Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to call Fitchburg Police at (608) 270-4321.
