Mount Horeb students take part in safety rally

MOUNT HOREB (WKOW) -- Student leaders in Mount Horeb gathered for what they called a school safety rally.

The event was modeled after the National School Walkout, but students wanted to use a term that inspired unification, not defiance.

School administrators and parents came out to support the students and their message as they honored the victims of the Parkland, FL shooting.

"Our students are our future. They're the next generation," said parent Tia Fagen "They're leading the way. Listening to their voices and letting them be heard and seen is amazing. I'm here to support their efforts of organizing this. They did all of the leg work. How can we not be here to support them?"

Around 400 students attended the rally, using one voice to call for change.

"We send our thoughts and prayers, and then, that's it, and they happen again. And then we send our thoughts and prayers, and they happen again," said Delany Zimmer, school safety rally organizer. "There's a never ending cycle."
