Badgers' Hornibrook prepares for season of expectation

Posted: Updated:

Fresh off an Orange Bowl MVP performance, Alex Hornibrook is back on the practice field for spring workouts. It's a familiar atmosphere for the junior quarterback, but he admits this spring feels different.

"It feels a little different. I have been doing it for a while now. I expect to know everything and be able to have a good feel for the offense and the guy. It's felt pretty good this first week. I think each spring it's kind of the same. We are excited to get our here and play. We have been lifting so long and working out, we are excited to get back out here and put the pads back on."

Hornibrook enters this spring with more expectations on him and the offense than ever before. The Badgers return 15 of the 18 players that started at least one game on offense last season. They return 92.3% of their rushing yards and 72.4% of their receiving yards. The buzz is already beginning that this offense could be one of the best in recent memory for the Badgers.

"Right now, I'm not really thinking about how we are projected for the season," says Hornibrook. "I know we still have time until the season starts, and we are looking at these next few weeks to improve as much as we can. So, I'm not really too worried about that."

Last season, Hornibrook threw for 2,644 yards, 25 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He will enter his junior season with a 20-3 record. Hornibrook is already knocking on the door of the school record for wins as a quarterback. Joel Stave holds that mark with 31.
