REACH-A-Child program highlighted by Madison Police

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police are highlighting a program that helps children cope during traumatic situations.

REACH-A-Child is a program that supplies each squad vehicle with backpacks filled with children's books. The program helps comfort children in crisis situations and distract them. Part of the money raised for the program is made possible by the American Family Insurance Championship at University Ridge.

"These are very worthy organizations to provide this type of support so we're excited about continuing the tournament," said Jim Buchheim, Vice President, American Family Insurance. "We're excited about June 2018 to be able to have another great tournament raise a lot more money for and continue to support great organizations like REACH-A-Child."

The program began in 2007. Its mission is to eventually provide every first responder in Wisconsin with a REACH bag.
