CITY OF BELOIT -- Police say a 20-year-old driver is in critical condition, and a 19-year-old girl riding with him has also been taken to the hospital after an early-morning rollover crash early Saturday.
Emergency workers responded to the scene on Willowbrook Road, north of State Line Road, at 1:40 a.m., where they found the car that rolled over several times. The young man, who officials say was wearing his seat belt, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He is expected to be transferred to Rockford Memorial Hospital. His passenger is in the hospital in Beloit and is expected to be all right as her injuries were not critical.
The Beloit Police Department is not naming the driver or passenger at this time, and the driver’s family members have not yet been notified.
Investigators say excessive speed is believed to be a primary factor in the crash. However, the accident remains under investigation and toxicology reports are pending.
