MADISON (WKOW) - A prosecutor says a shooting victim is near death, as the Madison man believed responsible for the violence is charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide.

A court commissioner set bail Monday for 31-year old Jesse Bodie at $750,000.  Bodie was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

A probable cause affidavit identifies the victim as 29-year old Eldridge Taylor.

A criminal complaint states a witness saw Taylor and Bodie in a dispute Mar. 28 in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 500-block of Northport Drive, when Bodie pulled out a gun and shot Taylor.

Assistant Dane County District Attorney Daniel Hess Monday said Taylor suffered five gun shot wounds, was not expected to survive the weekend, and is still precariously clinging to life.  The complaint states one bullet lodged in Taylor's spine, with at least one other wound "inoperable."

The complaint says before the shooting took place, Taylor challenged Bodie over Bodie's disrespectful attitude toward Taylor's mother.

Court records state there was also child witnesses to the shooting.
