MADISON (WKOW) -- Central Park in Madison is now dedicated to longtime Madison East High School Principal Milton McPike.

The cold, April weather didn't stop a crowd from coming out to watch the dedication event on Ingersoll Street Wednesday afternoon. McPike's friends and family, as well as the city's park officials gathered as a new sign to the entrance of the park was unveiled.

McPike served as principal at Madison East for 23 years. He also served on the Board of Regents.

McPike passed away in 2008.

"Renaming this park McPike Park is truly a fitting tribute for his spirit and character and Milt certainly, his memory will continue to pass on through every one of you," said Maureen Lokrantz with the Madison Parks Foundation.

The dedication ceremony included performances by the Madison East High School marching band and a mayoral proclamation recognizing April 4th as Milton McPike day.
