Governor declares state of emergency for wildfire risk

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Governor Scott Walker announced Tuesday morning he has signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency in Wisconsin in response to wildfire conditions.

The National Weather Service issued Red Flag Warnings both Sunday and Monday for parts of Wisconsin. Walker says concern that the conditions may continue led to the emergency declaration, which gives the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources more resources if these conditions continue.

“We are taking a precautionary measure in order to protect our state,” said Governor Walker. “By taking this step we are ensuring that the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has the tools to combat the spread of any wildfires."

27 StormTrack meteorologists are forecasting a chance of showers and thunderstorms - in the late day and overnight hours - both Wednesday and Thursday.
