Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin has free pet adoption event Saturday

JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- The Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin is hosting a free adoption event this Saturday.

The event is May 5 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the shelter at 222 Arch Street in Janesville. This is part of a nation-wide event where the Bissell Pet Foundation will donate to the humane society for each adoption completed that day.

Katie Swedlund with the HSSW says they hope to send every adoptable pet in their building home that day. That includes 4-year-old Rufus, an American Pit Bull Terrier.

Katie says Rufus' owner could no longer take care of him. She describes him as sweet and well-mannered. "He enjoys snuggling and just being close to his humans," Katie says.

Katie says Rufus wouldn't really do well in a house with cats, but she thinks he would be fine with other dogs. "He can come on a bit strong to other dogs and wants to be in charge, so it would depend on how the other dog felt about that behavior." She does think Rufus will do well in a home with children.
