Eyes on early draft picks as Packers open rookie minicamp

The Packers are one of nine NFL teams opening up rookie minicamp on Friday, which will go through Sunday.  It continues been a busy week for Packers rookies who were drafted a week ago, signed as free agents or are trying out.

Of the 11 players selected in the NFL draft by Green Bay, most eyes are on their top two picks - cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson.  The talent and youth of this duo is expected to have an impact this fall.

"Man, it was quite an experience," said Alexander, the Packers' first-round selection out of Louisville.  "It was like man, I'm finally here. I'm at Green Bay. It's a great feeling. There was a lot of hard work put into today, I can tell you that much."

"It's a great feeling," said Jackson, the Packers' second-round pick from Iowa. "It's good to be back on the field. That's the main thing.  We got over with all of  the draft process, now it's time to play football and I think that's the thing I'm most excited about."

Packers coach Mike McCarthy and his staff evaluated the rookie talent they have.

"This is a very important two days," said Coach McCarthy.  "You have an opportunity to make your roster better. The better your roster is - the 90 man roster - the more competitive off-season programs and going into training camp is the goal. That's what we are looking for."

The (foot)ball starts to get rolling now for the green and gold. After rookie minicamp this weekend, organized team activities (OTAs) start later this month and mandatory minicamp starts on June 12th.
