Crane failure halts Mt. Horeb church bell raising

MT. HOREB (WKOW) -- Parishioners at the United Methodist Church in Mt. Horeb will have to wait a little bit longer to see a refurbished, historical bell hoisted into the bell tower.

The bell was scheduled to be placed this morning but unfortunately the crane didn't work, so it was postponed.

The bell, made in 1894, was in the original Methodist Church on the corner of 3rd Street and Oak Street. There wasn't enough money to build a new tower for the bell.

"The bell went into storage for approximately 33 years. We got it out about 10 years ago, had it refurbished, had it mounted on some wood blocks." said Phil Tschudy, Communications Chair at Mt. Horeb Methodist Church. "We had it inside our entryway but it wasn't really on top of the building."

The bell is scheduled to be hoisted up midday on Monday if the crane works.
