UPDATE: Janesville humane society clears shelter during adoption event

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE (WKOW) -- The Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin adopted out almost all of its available pets Saturday during a nationwide push to "clear the shelters".

About 50 pets in Rock County have new homes after the event that waives adoption feeds.

"Right now we're going to go home and celebrate having a mostly empty shelter, but by next weekend we'll be full again," said Brett Frazier, executive director of HSSW.

This is the first time HSSW has participated in Clear the Shelters. Officials remind people there are always more pets that need homes.

MADISON (WKOW) -- If you've been thinking about getting a pet, Saturday in Janesville may be just the day to do that!

Officials with the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin say they'll be taking part in the Bissell Pet Foundation's Clear the Shelters event, when they'll join other shelters around the country in this FREE adoption event.

For each adoption completed on May 5th, the Bissell Pet Foundation will donate the fees to the Janesville shelter. Planners say that could bring more than 100 adoptions. Fees ordinarily start at $200.00 for dogs and and run up to $150.00 for cats.

The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  The main shelter is at 222 S Arch St, Janesville, WI 53548. Phone 752-5622

Even though the adoptions are free, normal adoption counseling will still be completed by staff and volunteers.

Also note, there won't be any puppies available on Saturday, but there will be adult dogs, cats and kittens.

The main shelter is at 222 S Arch St, Janesville, WI 53548. Phone 752-5622.
