Bucky on Parade statues go up across Madison

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- You'll soon see 85, life-size Bucky Badgers across Madison.

Organizers installed them all Sunday afternoon ahead of the Bucky on Parade public art events set for Monday. The statues are wrapped in form-fitted black plastic right now as they're set in their final locations. You can see a small preview of each Bucky by looking at its feet, which is the only part of the body not covered.

Each of the Buckys were created by artists from Wisconsin.

"We have 64 artists who worked to put together the 85 statues. You will see everything from basketball Bucky, to Buckys made out of bottle caps, to some made out of wood and everything in between, but it's a very different look from the traditional Bucky Badger," said Kate Dale, lead on the parade project.

Each Bucky on Parade statue is six-feet-tall.

This will be one of the largest public art projects in the U.S.

The Buckys will be on display starting Monday morning at 11 a.m. through September 12th.

Organizers say proceeds from the Bucky on Parade public art event will support non-profit organizations such as Garding Against Cancer, The Madison Area Sports Commission and other community charities.
