'A Night to Remember' gives prom-like experience for people with special needs

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Teenagers and adults with special needs experienced "A Night to Remember".

They're getting a free prom night that includes everything from dresses and tuxedos, to limo rides and a walk down a carpet with a cheering crowd.

The event started small eight years ago inside Heartland Church, now it's grown big enough to be held at Monona Terrace.

"Anytime you have kids with special needs they want to feel like they are a part of something and this is something they can do and remember for the rest of their lives," said co-sponsor of the event, Henry Sanders. "Just come in and be loved by everyone here and at the same time having fun."

This year there were about 200 honored guest and nearly 500 volunteers.

Selfless Ambition co-sponsors the event with Heartland Church.
