MADISON (WKOW) -- Police say a Madison man took measures into his own hands when he found two thieves breaking into his car.

The man tackled one of the suspects to the ground, then the accomplice threatened him with a machete.

The victim let the teens go, but followed and scolded them as they ran from the scene on Craig Avenue, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

Police found one of the suspects, 19-year-old Matthew Roesler, a few blocks away. They say he had a backpack full of items stolen from other cars.

When asked to identify his accomplice, police say Roesler refused to give him up. The MPD Burglary Crimes Unit is still working to identify the second suspect.

Roesler was cited for disorderly conduct and theft from a motor vehicle.
