Shots fired force Madison elementary school into lockdown

MADISON (WKOW) -- One elementary school was put on lockdown Tuesday afternoon following reports of shots fired on a nearby street.

Police say several people reported hearing about 10 gunshots near the 2900 block of Irvington Way around 4 p.m.. Witnesses also reported seeing a black or dark blue car speeding away from the area.

No one was hurt, and there were no reports of property damage following the shooting. Leopold Elementary School entered a lockdown, but the status was later lifted.

Officers found nine shell casings in the roadway, all nine millimeter.
