Thefts of guns from unlocked cars prompts warning from Janesville police

JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Two incidents in the past week of handguns being stolen from unlocked cars has prompted Janesville police to warn residents to keep their cars locked and weapons stored safely.

A Taurus 9 mm handgun was stolen on May 5 in the 1900 block of Linden Avenue and a loaded Glock Model 21 .45 caliber handgun was stolen on May 6 in the 1200 block of Church Street. 

Police are asking residents to not store guns and other valuables in their vehicles when parking overnight.
