Fitchburg man indicted in Madison, Monona robberies

MADISON (WKOW) -- A Fitchburg man faces federal charges in connection with two robberies in Madison area.

Anthony D. Jones, 30, was arrested April 30. Authorities say Jones robbed the Old National Bank on Monona Drive in Monona that day and is also linked to the robbery of a BP gas station on Pflaum Road in Madison a few days earlier. Jones is also accused of brandishing a weapon during the crime in Monona.

Jones is scheduled to enter a plea in federal court on Thursday.

If convicted, Jones faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison on the armed robbery charge and 10 years on the bank robbery charge.  The charge of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence carries a mandatory minimum penalty of seven years and a maximum of life in prison.
