Eau Claire (WQOW) -- Swimrite Pools and Spas is hosting its 7th annual Ribfest this weekend, come rain or shine or road construction.
Last year, a little rain didn't stop the community from showing up and chowing down. In fact, organizers told News 18 it was their best year ever as they raised nearly $10,000 for Feed My People.
Now, they're facing new problems this year thanks to the road construction near the new Fleet Farm, including a street which runs right in front of Swimrite. Organizers said they've gotten a couple of calls from concerned community members, but they have a plan in place to make the drive less of a headache.
"A lot of our local businesses here just on our road are helping us with parking," said Ty Schoettl, a salesperson for Swimrite, "like Gold's Gym, Powertex, down the road with Ace Auto Mall. Then we have a company, Prestige Auto, that's going to help us shuttle people from those locations to our event too."
Schoettl said the shuttle will make rounds from Gold's Gym and Ace Auto Mall throughout Ribfest, which runs from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12.
Eau Claire city officials told News 18 on Thursday that drivers will be able to use the street in front of Swimrite to get into Ribfest this weekend because crews will put down a gravel surface before then. City Engineer Dave Solberg said they hope to start laying asphalt sometime in June and have the project wrapped up by early July at the latest.
Schoettl said he's optimistic the construction won't stop people from coming out to Ribfest, which will be serving beer from Northwoods Brew Pub for the first time this year. He also said there will be a few new vendors set up at the event this year as well.
