MADISON (WKOW) -- People in Madison's Williamson-Marquette neighborhood gathered Saturday to talk about what they say are negative impacts of coal-powered electricity on climate change and public health.

It was hosted by the Sierra Club which is an environmental organization.

The group met in McPike Park for a short rally and march to the Madison Gas and Electric headquarters.

They demanded the company commit to becoming coal-free.

The demonstrator say 63% of MG&E's electricity is from coal.

"It's scary what it may be doing to affect the children's health and even adults health and also the implications of what it means for the future of the planet," said Wil-Mar resident, Heather Driscoll.

Coal is the single biggest source of Carbon Dioxide pollution, responsible for nearly half of global CO2 emissions.

CO2 a greenhouse gas driving climate change.
