MADISON (WKOW) -- Help your houseplants stay healthy by letting them "vacation" outdoors in the warmer months.
Melinda Myers offered some tips in this week's Melinda's Garden Moment.
Help keep bugs away by slipping plant containers into the toe of an old nylon stocking before placing it into a decorative pot, or sinking it into the ground. It'll also keep bugs out of your house when you move the plants back inside.
Keep aphids and mites at bay by giving your plants an occasional shower. Strong blasts of water help dislodge the creatures. If the situation gets out of control, use eco-friendly products like insecticidal soap and horticulture oil to lower their numbers.
Water the plants thoroughly, and mulch the soil with organic material to keep the roots cool and moist.
