Bus hits Marquette University building in downtown Milwaukee

Posted: Updated:

MILWAUKEE (WISN) -- A bus lost control and ran into a building on the Marquette University campus Tuesday.

Just after 5 p.m., a bus jumped a curb at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and 12th Street and crashed into Johnston Hall, which houses Marquette's College of Communications. At the same time, crews were also battling a four-alarm fire at an historic church in downtown Milwaukee.

"I saw him coming around the corner so fast, and I thought he was going to tip over, but he didn't," witness Sylvia Earl told our Milwaukee affiliate, WISN.

Three passengers and the bus drivers were taken to the hospital, according to the Milwaukee County Transit System. The injuries were not life-threatening. There were nine people on the bus when it crashed.

The building entrance was damaged. Johnston Hall was originally built in 1907.
