Peace Walk brings together neighbors on Madison's north side

MADISON (WKOW) -- Members of a Madison neighborhood who have seen violence gathered Thursday night to heal together.

People living on the north side joined in a Peace Walk at the Warner Park Community Center.

Officer David Dexheimer, the neighborhood resource officer for this area, say they wanted to show people there are resources to help them deal with the secondary trauma after frightening situations like shootings or stabbings.

"for a lot of these kids and these families up here, there is no escape. This is happening where they live," Dexheimer told 27 News. "And so we know that that's having an effect on our communities as far as the safety, as far as how people feel about the places that they live."

The event included therapeutic elements that could help families heal from traumatic situations -- like a Tae Kwon Do demonstration and art therapy.
