Beloit suspends search for new superintendent

Posted: Updated:

BELOIT (WKOW) -- The Beloit Board of Education voted Thursday night to suspend the search for its next superintendent.

The district will now hire an interim superintendent and pursue leadership training for board and district leaders to focus on making the district an attractive place to work.

The district interviewed seven candidates for the job, then narrowed the field down to three candidates. One of the three withdrew from the process, and the board decided not to hire either of the two remaining candidates.

The board said it was a hard decision.

“The difficult decision to suspend the search is not a reflection of the remaining two candidates," said Board President Laurie Endres in a news release. "We must ensure that the process to select the next superintendent builds trust with all stakeholders and, as a board, we want to stabilize the district and improve the climate in order to set the next superintendent up for success."

The board is hoping to hire an interim superintendent as soon as possible. That person will serve for one year only, and cannot apply for the long-term position once it's re-posted.

The search for the next superintendent will reconvene in the fall.
