HHS to announce proposal to deny money for clinics that discuss abortion
WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- The Trump administration plans to propose not allowing abortions at places that get federal family planning funds, namely Planned Parenthood.
By law, Planned Parenthood and similar organizations cannot use federal money to directly fund abortions. They accept federal money for services like annual screenings and checkups.
Under the new rule, services would have to be performed in a different place than the abortions and by different employees, if the group still wants to receive federal money for family planning. A member of the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association said requiring the family planning clinics and abortion facilities to be separate would disrupt services for women across the country. Pro-life advocates counter that abortion is not health care or birth control.
The Department of Health and Human Services is expected to announce the proposal Friday.
