MADISON (WKOW) -- The identities of three people who died in a head-on crash east of Waunakee Friday morning have been released by the Dane County Medical Examiner's office.
A news release Sunday morning states the driver of the Mercedes Benz sedan was Thomas G. Westrich of Waunakee. He was 21 and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two people in the Chrysler minivan that was hit both died and have been identified as Lorraine C. Fundingsland, 64, of Pardeeville and Frank Lee Fundingsland, 68, also of Pardeeville.
Frank Fundingsland was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Lorraine Fundingsland died at the hospital not long after being taken there.
Preliminary results of the ME's office examinations confirm that all three died from injuries sustained in the traffic crash.
The news release states that additional testing is underway and the deaths remain under investigation.
The crash occurred on STH 19 just west of River Road just before 10:30 Friday morning.
Investigators' initial reports say just before the crash, the Mercedes was seen driving recklessly and reportedly was passing vehicles on the gravel shoulder.
They believe the driver then lost control of the car, crossed the centerline and hit the westbound-minivan head on.
