TOWN OF VERNON, Wis.(WISN) — One person suffered serious burns in an early morning house explosion.

Town of Vernon firefighters received a call around 3:15 a.m. Monday from a house on Badger Trail, off Guthrie Drive in the Waukesha County town of Vernon. When they arrived a few minutes later, the house was engulfed in flames and heavily damaged.

A neighbor told WISN 12 News he heard an explosion, which woke up his wife.

Because of a lack of hydrants in the area, fire crews called several neighboring fire departments for help bringing water to the scene.

Flight For Life airlifted the burn victim to the hospital. No firefighters suffered any injuries.

As for the cause, Acting Battalion Chief Justin Schulpius says because the house was so heavily damaged, it's going to take some time to determine the cause.

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department is leading the investigation.
