MADISON (WKOW) -- A new online poll is showing who might lead the pack in the primary election for governor.
Wisconsin's Choice held its second online poll to help determine the top four democratic candidates. The group is a collaboration between Our Wisconsin Revolution and the Wisconsin Working Families Party.
Of about 4,000 online participants, results show the top four candidates are former Wisconsin Democracy Campaign executive director Mike McCabe, former state Rep. Kelda Roys, firefighters union president Mahlon Mitchell and state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout.
These results come days after all 10 candidates for governor spoke at the democratic convention. David Canon, UW Political Science Professor, said these polls only mean so much.
When compared to the statewide Marquette University Law School Poll, conducted back in March, the results are widely different than Wisconsin's Choice results. Candidates Tony Evers and Madison Mayor Paul Soglin didn't make a mark in this poll, but topped Marquette's.
Canon said these results can change quickly weeks leading up to the primary in August and most campaigns use them to their advantage to gain endorsements.
“Both polls can have an impact on fundraising because you're able to show your party how much support you have, but most voters don't pay close attention to these results at all,” said Canon.
Wisconsin's Choice will hold another poll next month which will then help them determine who win their endorsement.
