Mineral Point is on point and headed to the state tournament

Posted: Updated:

The Mineral Point baseball team is young but getting hot down the stretch of the season on their way to the school's first ever WIAA State Baseball Tournament berth on Wednesday.

At 18-4 on the season, the Pointers have more wins than the total of players on the roster of 15.

"Our lineup, one through nine is very deep. There is no east out," said Mineral Point head coach Jordan Tibbits.

The Pointers only have one senior on the roster, and every player on the team is a multi-sport athlete.

Mineral Point won conference titles in football and basketball this school year. For most of the players on the baseball team, playing in big games is already something they are used to playing through.

"With basketball, we have played in some big games this year with sectionals and regionals," said freshman infielder Liam Stumpf, also a member of the Pointers football and basketball teams. "A lot of big games that got us ready for this."

Mineral Point will play St. Mary Catholic at approximately 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Fox Cities Stadium.

"I'm excited. I haven't gotten nervous for any games this year," said sophomore shortstop Isaac Lindsey. "We just go out and have fun and that's what it's all really about is having fun. It will be a good experience up there."
