MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison's organics collection pilot program will end next week.

On Monday, the city announced it's ending the initiative because it can't afford to process the waste it collects.

The program started seven years ago and aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Though the pilot program is ending, city officials say they hope to bring back food scrap recycling to meet their sustainability goals.
