Vigil held for Milwaukee police officer killed in line of duty

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Family, friends and colleagues paid tribute Monday night to the Milwaukee police officer who died in the line of duty last week.

They held a vigil at the spot where Charles Irvine, Jr. died.

One Milwaukee police officer thanked everyone for their support and reflected on his brother in blue.

"Officer Irvine -- he did his job every day. He came, he didn't complain," said the officer. "Today, I know he didn't give us his life in vain because look at what he's done today -- he brought us all together."

Irvine lost his life after the squad car he was in rolled over. He was 23 years old, and had been with the department for four years.

A visitation and memorial service for Irvine will be held Saturday in Brookfield.
