NAPERVILLE, IL (WKOW) -- A police officer in Illinois is being honored for his quick actions to save a young boy running along Route 59.

Naperville police Sgt. Anthony Mannino came upon the boy while on patrol last month. Mannino used his car to block traffic while he ran after the boy.

Mannino said he thought of his own family at that moment.

"I have twin boys and there's not a day that goes by where something bad happens," Mannino said. "You always think of your own kids."

Mannino was able to catch up with the boy before he got hurt.

A few minutes later, his mother came running toward his squad car. She lived just a couple of blocks away from the intersection. The boy left the house when she wasn't looking.

The Naperville Police Department gave Mannino its Life Saving Award.
