Platteville man dies in one-vehicle crash in Lafayette County

LAFAYETTE COUNTY (WKOW) -- A Platteville man was discovered dead Wednesday after the vehicle he was driving rolled down an embankment and hit a tree.

Brandon Joseph Zart, 23,of Platteville, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office was called to a one-vehicle crash with unknown injuries about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday on County Highway G near the intersection of Mitchell Hollow Road in the town of Belmont, in Lafayette County.

Lafayette County deputies as well as the Belmont Police Department along with the Belmont Fire Department and EMS were all dispatched.

Investigators say that a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer Zart was driving was traveling westbound on Highway G when it left the roadway and traveled down a steep embankment on the south side of the road. The vehicle then hit a tree and some large rocks before overturning and hitting two more trees before coming to rest.

This crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office.

An exact time of the crash has not yet been determined.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Belmont Police, EMS and Fire Departments, as well as the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office.

This is the second motor vehicle fatality of 2018 on Lafayette County roadways.
