Madison police present students with scholarships

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police are celebrating three students who hope to give back to the community some day.

On Wednesday the students received scholarships from police to help them complete their education. The recipients include Jonathan Urbina, 19, Daniel Jimenez, 22, and Xiong Vu. All three students are enrolled in the criminal justice program at Madison College.

The scholarships award students who hope to work for law enforcement. It also aims to help make the department more diverse.

"I feel if they see an officer of color, they can relate to them, be able to connect with them in a more personal way, and I feel they'd be more comfortable," said scholarship recipient Jonathan Urbina.

Each scholarship recipient will receive $2,750 toward their eduation.
