Richland Co. woman facing animal abuses charges

LOGANVILLE (WKOW) - A Richland County woman has been released on bond after being booked on probable animal abuse charges for reportedly not caring properly for two horses.

A news release from Sheriff James J. Bindl Friday says his department received a complaint June 4 about the animals that appeared to be in poor health. They were housed at a property on Shellington Drive in Rockbridge Township. Owner, Thurley Neumaier, 62, of Loganville, told police the horses were underweight due to dental problems and because she had fallen behind on deworming them.

After officials consulted with a local veterinarian about the horses' welfare, Ms. Neumaier was booked into the Richland County Jail and later released on bond.

Officials said they checked the other horses on the property and the remaining animals appeared to be in good health.
