City emergency services stretched thin in overnight flooding

Posted: Updated:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police say their officers as well as other emergency crews were spread thin during significant street flooding due to storms overnight Friday into Saturday.

City wide, there were many reports of high water, stalled vehicles, popped manhole covers and downed trees.  Significant flooding was reported on the eastbound beltline at Verona Rd.  Cars had to turn around and travel in the wrong direction to exit at Whitney Way because the road was impassable.

Also, all lanes of US-14 NB/WB were closed from McCoy Rd. to US-12/18 for a portion of the overnight because of water covering the road.  Difficult travel due to high water was also reported on University Ave. as well as Whitney Way.

Madison Police say despite the hectic overnight, there were no reports of weather-related injuries.

The National Weather Service lifted its flash flood warning for Dane County at 3:00 a.m.
