MADISON (WKOW) --An Arena man was arrested Sunday afternoon after trying to steal cash from a woman at a gas station on Madison's west side, as well as trying to steal a car to escape.

According to police, around 12:15 Sunday afternoon, 28-year-old Trever R. McKeown, allegedly snatched cash from the hand of a 35-year-old woman from Saint Paul, Minnesota, at the BP gas station at 699 South Gammon Road.

The woman told her friend about the theft and that person began chasing after McKeown.

Police say while McKeown was trying to escape he tried to get into an occupied van in the Woodman's Grocery lot but was not allowed in by the driver. McKeown then was able to get into the passenger seat of another occupied vehicle. Police say the driver of that vehicle turned off the car, took the keys and left the vehicle.

The woman's friend was able to catch up with McKeown and after a brief scuffle, the woman's friend was able to take back the stolen cash, according to police.

No one was hurt and McKeown was transported to the Dane County Jail.
