Joe Schobert's #23 Retired at High School

Posted: Updated:

Waukesha West High School retired the #23 of former Badger Joe Schobert on Sunday.

As a senior, Schobert earned All-State honors as a running back, rushing for nearly 1500 yards and 23 touchdowns. Then, he walked on for the Badgers, eventually winning a scholarship as a linebacker.  Schobert was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 4th round of the 2016 NFL draft.

"[Having my number retired] is just pretty cool," said Schobert. "I think it's unique to be able to have this stuff up, kind of a memento on the stadium just to remind the the kids who are here today as they grow up that I came from their shoes. I did all the stuff they did growing up.  I came from Waukesha, Wisconsin and if they do things the right way - and with a little bit of luck - they can end up where I am.

The Browns linebacker also held a football camp for youngsters at the school, with current and former Badgers helping out.
