SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- TDS Telecom said today on its website that it did not hire, or was working with, a contractor who Tuesday ruptured a natural gas line in Sun Prairie.

The gas leak later resulted in a massive explosion in the city center Tuesday evening, destroyed a number of buildings and resulted in the death of a local Sun Prairie volunteer firefighter, Capt. Cory Barr.

TDS says for the past 18 months it has been building a new fiber optic broadband network in Sun Prairie.

The company says Thursday it confirmed TDS contractors were not associated with the accident.

As of Thursday, the identity of the contractor or its worker who might have been involved in the gas line rupture have not been identified.
